Pavel Janák: Vase hollow big black stripe - detail of advertisement

Bohemia 1911, Manufacturer: Modernist, shop@modernista.cz
Janák's vases from 1911 are a lesson in great design - two shapes, three sizes and five different decors - elegant convex and bulging curves decorated only with simple lines and stripes in black and gold, they look so simultaneous that it is hard to believe they were designed almost 100 years ago. These are reproductions of the originals kept in the UPM and the Moravian Gallery in Brno. The original collections of vases were made of porous wood, now we use porcelain. The vases are processed as a hand-decorated glazed cast. Reproductions of the originals stored at the UPM.
Pavel Janák (1882 – 1956)
A versatile artist: architect, urban planner, designer and teacher, Pavel Janák was a leading theoretician of the Czech Cubist movement, a proponent of interwar Art Deco and radical Modernism embodied by Functionalism, but also the author of excellent reconstructions of important historical buildings.
